'Dem No Worry' [Irie Ites Records]
Okay so, big and beautiful news out this week (yesterday, as of this writing) as one of our absolute favourite artists, the constantly BLAZING Chezidek, is back with a big new single which has WONDERFUL implications! First of all the song: 'Dem No Worry' comes courtesy of Irie Ites and continues a fine run of output between artist and label as the two have a well decorated history working with one another ["Accept me for whoooo I ammmmmmmm!"] and ' Dem No Worry' DEFINITELY continues their winning ways. Produced by Naram from out of New Zealand (whose name I am unfamiliar with but is, apparently, one of those individuals (like many producers) whose work you run into without realizing it), Chezidek uses a fine backing to tell all that he simply DOES NOT HAVE THE TIME nor the desire to worry and wonder about negativity and negative individuals in his everyday life.
"Badmind no worry me
No worry me
Let dem try, lem dem try, let dem si
Tink a lucky, mi lucky
But a Jah watch over mi
Just di money dem ah pree
But mi burn vanity
Wicked people, wi nah fond a dem
That is why Jah send di lightning and di thunda dem
AND DI EARTHQUAKE SHAKE DI GROUND WEH UNDA DEM
And di tidal waves and all di hurricanes
SEH A SPEAKER OF DI TRUTH NO GOT ALOT OF FRIENDS
WHEN YOU STAND UP FOR DI RIGHT IT ALWAYS ANGER MEN
So mi bun mi marijuana, hold a stronger rem
FOR DI FOUNDATION TO DI ROOT, IT'S NOT ABOUT DI STEM"
'Dem No Worry' is an excellent tune. It is exceptional and it's exceptional on a heightened scale of how I look at Chezidek's music these days (from extremely talented people, you expect more. This is MORE). So, were this just a new single, I would be pleased by that, alone. HOWEVER, the "wonderful implications" behind the new tune is the that 'Dem No Worry' is the very first single from a project releasing on the 14th of April, 2023 - as Chezidek & Irie Ites will deliver "Never Stop", a brand new album! I was loosely putting together a 'Most Wanted 2023' list of individuals from whom we'd like to hear from this year and I was thinking about including him (though he was just out in 2020) (and technically the following year as well as "Hello Africa" was re-released) but, AMAZINGLY, he is no longer in the discussion. Given the years and years of material Chezidek and II have made together and just how solid (at least) virtually all of it has been, I can say that there doesn't exist a project currently with a scheduled release date that I am more looking forward to hearing this year.
That's still two and half months away - until then, do enjoy 'Dem No Worry', whose digital release comes with a dubbed out version also courtesy of Naram.
Time to get excited.
{Note: Chezidek is also touring Europe in April & May to support "Never Stop"}
