Cali & The Queen!

Today we have two big tunes from a pair of our favourites, both of which may seem to forecast full[er] projects forthcoming.

'Natural' by Queen Omega [Evidence Music]

Reggae Empress, Queen Omega, is back with 'Natural' which is the first single from her EP, "Stars Align", (which at least as far as I can tell, is set in stone. It's on its way!) that is forthcoming (I have no idea when, but as long as I know it is coming, I can be patient) (probably). Queen Omega is one of my top.... five-ish artists EVER. She's a genius, her music is fantastic and, though she hasn't blessed us with an album since 1932, she has remained active and, at the height of her powers, the Trinidad native has very little in the way of peers. She's amazing. In 'Natural', she puts her crushing talents on a vibrant display, celebrating the goodness of relationships. 'Natural' is Dancehall, it's Afrobeat and it's everywhere in between. That EP will be brilliant. There is no question. And I cannot wait to get my fucking ears on it.

"Respect to di woman who have di ting weh golden

MAKE DI MAN DEM RUN DEM DOWN LIKE ATO BOLDON"

'Heartbreaker' by Cali P [LowLow Records]

It's nearing a half-decade since the last time constantly torching Gwada-Swiss chanter, Cali P, has delivered an album to the world and, perhaps, stars are aligning in his case as well. If they are, what may prove to be its first taste, 'Heartbreaker', is a very COOL and interesting one. This song is fairly specific, but if you take it in a broader scope, it's more about developing, gaining life experience and just growing up - specifically in relationships.

"Everytime it happen, it make she feel stranger
Ready fi protect from all players
Next time around she will be di heartbreaker"

The tune links the artist with esteemed producer, Teka, who we remember from Rootdown Records from out of Germany, but is now linked with his own LowLow Records imprint. The two have worked together several times in the past, perhaps most notably, in 2019 on a two-headed EP called "Vizion"(they also did a LOVELY tune last year called 'Rise Up & Shine', which featured Cali P alongside Stonebwoy and Seun Kuti). So, I would presume that if an album was forthcoming, Teka would be helming and I am damn looking forward to it.
