Okay so, not too long ago we told you about the wonderful new album from Ancient King, "Seh Selassie I" ["The mercy of Igziabeher who protect from Satan - then that believe in That Man"] (actually got some feedback from AK and he was very happy with it) (very nice person). That album came courtesy of Ras L and company at Ras Elyment Records who have been hard at work following its release. Not too long ago they dropped the very curious 'Trying' from an artist who we haven't heard from in quite some time, the well talented Lady Passion and now they are back again with a big new tune from the incomparable Akae Beka, 'Need Our Love To Talk'. This, of course, does not mark the initial (official) pairing between Akae Beka and Ras Elyment as artist and label previously linked on 2020's full album, "The Spirit Of Standing Up" (which will probably be one of the first Vault reviews we do in the new year) and, more indirectly, the actual people involved, Vaughn Benjamin and Lyndon Williams, have a musical history which stretches back for decades at this point. So, at least on paper, you know the type of musical chemistry you're dealing with between these two.
What actually plays out, musically, is befitting of such a solid relationship to my ears. 'Need Our Love To Talk' is exceptional. What I would ultimately take from it is the idea that love is a STABLIZING force in the world. Going through it the first two or three times or so, the subject of 'Need Our Love To Talk' reminded me a bit of one of my favourite Benjamin songs, 'A Healing' ("Beauty For Ashes" album) (everything on that album was a favourite of mine) ["Kind words and good emanation frequency"]. On 'A Healing' -- which may be one of the most direct songs you will ever hear -- he deals more with the health benefits actually SAYING nice things to people ["A therapeutic walk through the soul is a talk of healing"]. On this tune, I think it's a bit broader. The imagery here includes saying nice things to people; DOING nice things and, generally, being of a more uplifting attitude.
"Balance is a thing weh mek imbalance depart
And imbalance is a thing weh mek balance pop off
So we need our love to talk"
The centering thought here, for me at least, being that when things (on both small and large scales), are out of line - LOVE is what can center them; and, again, it isn't just the things you say as it was for "A Healing", it is a variety of different things and EXPERIENCES which show your love. Of course that's just my conclusion, you can see for yourself as Akae Beka's 'Need Our Love To Talk' is available everywhere digitally on Ras Elyment Records.
