Okay so, I was going to (not post) make a big ‘Coming Soon’ feature for today, but in compiling such a thing I noticed that a REALLY big deal had finally made its way onto international release schedules, so I decided to give it a bit more personal attention. If the name ‘Admiral T’ doesn’t bring much of a reaction from you that’s really a damn shame, especially considering the fact that you hang around here as much as you do. Admiral T, whoever he is, is apparently a big enough of a deal to get me to do the first single album preview that I’ve done in . . . Yeah. Who he is, Mr. Christy Campbell [bka Admiral T], is simply one of the most talented Dancehall artists on the planet and a bonafide superstar in French Caribbean/French Reggae music. The Gwada native has been one of the very few artists to ‘break through’ and has done so to the tune of having a major contract with Universal Music France. He also just so happens to come from the same base camp, Don’s Music, as some of my favourite Frenchie artists, including the captivating Saël, the energetic [L’ Homme] Paille and of course the fire breather himself, Saïk, a disciple and good friend of Admiral T‘s. But, in terms of popularity, make no mistake about it, the Admiral is the King of that pack and it’s going to show even further here as he is now about to bring forth his third album overall (although his debut, Mozaïk Kréyòl, was released twice, once as an independent and once through the major, I believe) and his first from since 2006’s big Toucher L’Horizon, the hotly anticipated Instinct Admiral.
Immediately what you’ll notice just looking through the tracks (or at least you should), is that the album contains three VERY high profile combinations with the likes of Jamaican Dancehall ace Busy Signal, Soca King Machel Montano and the saintly Fanny J on a BIG tune that I’ve heard, ‘Bay Love’. There’s also Young Chang MC and Lieutenant and a bonafide CUTIE (don’t take my word for it, go look), Awa Imani on board on Instinct Admiral as well. Listening through the clips it kind of sounds a bit Hip-Hoppish, the tunes that I don’t know very well, but the vibes seem to fit in well and the Hip-Hop thing makes way for some Dancehall, of course some Soca with HD involved and just some nice vibes. Check the album’s very first single, ‘Viser La Victoire’.
The first big French Reggae release of 2010, Admiral T’s brand new album Instinct-Admiral is in stores worldwide on April 19 (that’s a week from the day I’m posting this) on Don’s Music & Universal Records.
Rated Potential - 4.75/5
