I've got REALLY good news this week! First of all, my birthday is OVER! It was horrible, it was painful and now it's done (it was also productive, I wrote a complete review and started another one). Hip Hip Hooray. AND - Achis Reggae 2009 Athlete of The Year, Haitian Jean Pascal, just beat Chad Dawson for the Light Heavyweight Championship of the World. I didn't see the fight, apparently I didn't miss much, but big him up same way. This week, we don't have anything Haitian or Frenchie, but we have EXCELLENT material nonetheless from a couple of very nice familiar guests and a newbie who does a first for beautiful tunes Sunday. Let's run!
I believe this is a first so it had to go first - Reader Marco from . . . Marco is from everywhere, he's from Spain, he's from Ghana and he's from Oregon in the States and he just let us in on what he's been working on and lo and behold one of them is a BIG tune so I volunteered it for him, 'Jah Live'. HEAVY. Heavy piece of tune here and hopefully I'm not the only one that thinks so because, seriously, I haven't gotten a second opinion from anyone else (besides Bredz who loves it), but this is SPECIAL in my opinion. So biggup Marco and check out the account behind this video because he has four other tunes yeah.
We're going to stay 'In Ghana' for the next piece, which comes from new veteran on this feature, JP from . . . (where the hell is JP from) . . . Washington DC! Okay, JP gives us a very very fitting tune from the remarkable Rocky Dawuni - 'In Ghana'. Apparently this song was quite a big hit for Dawuni and Rocky's is definitely a name which, while I need to learn more about him, I'm always happy to hear from him (and do check out his new album "Hymns For The Rebel Soul") and biggup JP - I've been talking to him a little bit these days - Really nice person.
{Got an odd request from a Reggae fan for a Soca review which I did IMMEDIATELY, so expect that, Patrice Roberts' "Looking Hot" and The Repeat Riddim album for reviews this week on Wednesday and Friday yeah}
And lastly we have the finest of just a STRING of good and timely tunes from big time veteran, Dutchie Michiel. A week or two ago we did the review for Maikal X's big debut album "Genesis", big album, and I mentioned there that I didn't know a lot about Maikal's origins and as a commenter on that post said, he had apparently done the majority of his work in Hip-Hop circles before getting to us in Reggae. Well, Michiel took it a step further by actually giving us some music from The Postmen and the finest of the lot and the most fitting was 'U Wait'. Just a lovely song here (with the video shot in Suriname), with a nice mix of Reggae and Hip-Hop yeah (and it also features a Maikal X looking less like Ton Loc and more like basketballer Tracy McGrady as Bredz points out). Biggup Michiel, I don't know how many times the man has participated in this feature, but he always brings stellar material.
As for me, this week my choice was pretty easy. I'm going to give you an early little taste of what you'll HOPEFULLY be reading about for the next two days around here by just leaving matters with what? It's Anthony B, it's Natty King from the "Higher Meditation" album with a tune giving thanks and praise to The Most Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, 'Honour To Marcus':
